Club Castiglion del Bosco Style: Classic Luxury 5 Star Hotels Loc. Castiglion Del Bosco Montalcino , 53024 Italy

Situated in the heart of Tuscany’s Brunello winemaking region, Castiglion del Bosco is one of Tuscany’s largest contiguous estates. It is located in the Val d’Orcia 12 kilometers northwest of Montalcino, in the Province of Siena, just 95 kilometers south of Florence and 200 kilometers north of Rome. Its vast property spans ten kilometers, comprising nearly 4,500 spectacular acres of protected nature preserve. Five times the size of New York’s Central Park, nine times the size of Monaco and twelve times the size of London’s Hyde Park, Castiglion del Bosco is a magnificent piece of Tuscany.

The majestic Estate has seen many changes in its 800-year history, yet it has changed very little. Scattered across the property are remnants of a rich past: a circular Etruscan stronghold dating back to 600 BC, a 12th century castle fortress, ruins of an early Gothic chapel (c. 900 BC) and Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo, with its spectacular Lorenzetti fresco.

Today, Castiglion del Bosco is a completely restored Estate with a focus on the land, the wine, the history. The debut of Il Borgo offers a fortunate few a limited opportunity to taste the exquisite lifestyle that can only be experienced at Castiglion del Bosco.

Location Summary
The Estate lies within the slopes of the Val d'Orcia, an undulating landscape known for its enchanting beauty and juxtaposition of colors and textures. This land, deep green in spring and golden in fall, is also rich with art and culture. Carefully preserved ancient sites, dating back to the Etruscan era, blend with art from the Medieval and early Renaissance periods. The area is also famous for its agriculture. The vineyards of the Val d'Orcia, including Castiglion del Bosco's own, produce the most coveted Italian wines, Brunello di Montalcino and its younger sibling, Rosso di Montalcino.

In addition to a deeply rooted appreciation for history and viniculture, Tuscans are sports enthusiasts. The opportunities for outdoor sports here are diverse: fly fishing, hunting, horseback riding, hiking, cycling, hot-air ballooning and, of course, witnessing il Palio, the infamous equestrian event that takes place each summer in Siena.
