Both Costa Smeralda and Hotel Pitrizza’s arresting and remarkably fluid juxtaposition of organic and modern comes courtesy of one of Italy’s most influential architects. In the early 1960’s, Ismaili Prince Aga Khan IV—in an effort to breathe new life into Costa Smeralda’s tourist industry—recruited the renowned architect Luigi Vietti to join the prestigious Architectural Committee of the Costa Smeralda. After creating the Village of Porto Cervo and Aga Khan’s home, Cerbiatte Villas, he turned his talents to Hotel Pitrizza. Later projects included Porto Cervo’s Dolce Sposa complex and many grand villas in the area. In 1990, the hotel undertook a complete restoration, and is current grandeur is a contemporary take on Vietti’s Mediterranean style. Even more recently, the hotel has completed new sea view suites and villas with private beaches or pools—an evolution worthy of the architect’s inventive efforts.
Our private beach, granite pool, premier restaurant, and more combine with native decor for an exclusive and authentic Costa Smeralda stay. Whether taking a dip in our saltwater pool—an aquatic oasis sculpted from the island's granite, playing a golf round, island hopping, or indulging in Pitrizza Restaurant's fresh Mediterranean cuisine, we offer activities enough to fill a lifetime.

Location Summary
Offering the most refined of all holiday destinations in Sardinia, the 55-kilometer-long Costa Smeralda or Emerald Coast is located on the Northeast corner of the island renowned for translucent waters, pristine beaches, and a bright Mediterranean climate.
Presently, Sardinia and the Costa Smeralda are part of Italy. In the past, however, they were ruled by the Romans, the Saracens of North Africa, Spain, and Austria—to name only a handful. The result is a rich, layered culture that is reflected in its distinct local traditions, cuisine, and handicrafts. Experience these native customs first-hand with Hotel Pitrizza’s full immersion opportunities, including local artisan demonstrations, a visit to the famous Cerasarda pottery factory, and day trips to the celebrated archaeological site of Li Muri or the Gallura region’s characteristic small villages.
The development of Sardinia’s international tourist industry began in the 1960s thanks to the efforts of Prince Karim Aga Khan IV. Consequently, modern coastal amenities include not only nature’s bounty but also world class restaurants, celebrated architecture, dynamic nightlife, designer boutiques, and the renowned sailing regatta, the Sardinia Cup. For amateur ocean adventurers, excursions to bordering islands Mortorio, Soffi, and Maddalena present a taste of sea life—and the possibility of observing indigenous bottle-nosed dolphins in their natural habitat.
Additional activities include golfing at the esteemed Pevero Golf Course, a ride on a traditional Sardinian steam engine, and unforgettable outings to the Ispinigoli and Blue Marino grottos.
