Akira Movie Going Ahead Again?

The Akira live action American remake has officially been given the green light again after several delays, a change of directors, and many rumored stars (including Keanu Reeves and Leonardo DiCaprio).

The movie’s budget has been slashed from $150 million to $90 million, but filming will finally begin in February or March of 2012, with Spanish director Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan, Unknown) at the helm.

Garrett Hedlund, best known for Tron: Legacy, is reportedly the frontrunner to star as Kaneda, the leader of a Neo Tokyo bike gang.

Variety reports that “it’s only a matter of time” before Hedlund is officially announced for the role. So he'll be swapping his cool Tron bike for the cool Kaneda bike then! :)
